I recommend QuickBooks. It is very flexible and user friendly, and keeps all your financial information in a way that your accountant will be able to use as well. Intuit, the maker of the software, has a great ProAdvisor program so you can easily find someone with QuickBooks expertise if you need any help setting up or using the program correctly.

If you have an accountant do your numbers, you may need to use Quick Books, as a lot of accountants want a standard format. If you keep the books yourself, I HIGHLY recommend Owl Accounting Software!

SEE:

This is NOT an affiliate link, I am not compensated in any form for posting there link, nor am I affiliated with Owl software! :)

I would use the Microsoft Office Suite. It is fairly user friendly and has all you need.

Good luck with your business.

first question, HOW MODEST?

A simple animated gif, could take you stills and do some simple frames. Lots of programs (free and shareware) at

For more that that, I'd suggest FLASH, from your friends at Adobe. it's real programming, you have lots of control. But it's not simple.

I don't recommend anything other then a good word processor. There is no need to purchase software specifically to write the plan.

Resources showing what a plan should look like are avaiable at the SBA and Score as you mention, after that using a good word processor should be all you need.

Wow! You need to really focus. There is so much competition. There are a zillion small software packages, how will you be different? I'd say that a small business needs can be met by excel for accounting, but then for other business needs it comes down to a specific industry. If you want to niche yourself, then what business do you know? How can you improve the process of doing business by implementing the latest technology? technology for technology's sake will not push out an existing package. Where and how does this technology enable the business.

There are many many gaps that need addressing, but without knowing more about your technology, it is impossible to say how the value is to be added.

Start with the pain...what pain are you curing? When you can answer that question, the software you should develop will become obvious.

Look at QuickBooks, that is the basic model for most small businesses. Accountants tend to have problems with the lack of controls in QB but that is really the reason non-accountants find it so easy to use.

If you are developing a small business software try and focus on a specific industry (i.e. auto parts store, floor covering store, etc...) this will limit your sales base but the niche could make you more competitive with larger software developers.

Obviously, the best way to increase the value is to increase the sales and exposure.

There are a number of ways to take it to market, with affiliate marketing being an excellent way.

Might I suggest checking this company out:

With "Affiliate Marketing", you don't pay a dime in commission unless there's a sale for it. That way you can get exposure on a large number of websites.

Why not email me your link, and I'll post it on my site for you?
